Linton is a small town of approximately 1,300, located in Emmons County about 60 miles southeast of Bismarck. It serves as the county seat and is the largest city in Emmons County. The town was founded in 1899 and thus, celebrated its centennial in July of 1999. Linton lies along the Central North American Trade Corridor (U.S. Highway 83) and is the business hub and cultural center of Emmons County. The town of Linton also has easy access to Highway 13, which connects it to the southeast region of the state. This full service community is a lovely, safe place to settle down to raise a family, or to visit. It is only 15 miles east of the Missouri River and Lake Oahe, which offers excellent fishing year round. The Linton Shooting Range is located one mile west of town and is a certified range and also open to trap shooting. The Linton Country Club has one of the best 9-hole grass green courses in North Dakota and is open April through October. The town of Linton is also host to several special events throughout the year, including a 4th of July Celebration and Parade, a Chili Cook-Off in October, and Light Up the Night holiday event in late November.

Linton Weather & Climate

The Southern Region of North Dakota has a four-season, continental climate due to its distance from both the mountains and oceans. It is known for its long, cold, snowy winters and hot summers. Spring and autumn are short and highly variable seasons with mild to moderate temperatures. Thunderstorms can occur in spring and summer, but, in general, North Dakota is one of the driest states in the country. However, springtime flooding is a relatively common event, due to the snowmelt and eventual runoff to rivers in the area. Other meteorological events can include hail, blizzards, polar fronts, tornadoes and high-velocity straight-line winds. Typically, in this region, the warmest month is July and the coldest month is January. The wettest month is usually June and the driest month is December.
