Dickinson is a city of approximately 16,000, located in Stark County in southwestern North Dakota. It is about 60 miles east of the Montana state line. Home to Dickinson State University, the town of Dickinson bills itself as the "Gateway to Theodore Roosevelt National Park." Things to do in the park include canoeing and kayaking, backcountry camping, wildlife viewing, biking and hiking, guided tours by park rangers and cross-country skiing. The Little Missouri River Badlands provide a spectacular backdrop to the park and one of the largest deposits of petrified wood in the U.S. is found inside Theodore Roosevelt Park. The town of Dickinson is also less than hour's drive to Lake Sakakawea, which offers fishing, boating and other recreational activities. However, you don't need to leave Dickinson to enjoy yourself. The town offers over 1,500 acres of public park land with trails for hiking, jogging, bicycling, picnicking, volleyball, soccer, and baseball fields. Dickinson is also home to the #4 Best Public Golf Course in North Dakota, according to Golfweek Magazine. Other attractions include the Dakota Dinosaur Museum, which features 14 full-scale dinosaurs, as well as minerals, fossils and even a "glow in the dark" exhibit. The Enchanted Highway, approximately ten miles east of town, features seven of the worlds largest metal sculptures, spread along 32 miles of the highway. For your convenience, Dickinson also has plenty of restaurants, shopping and lodging accommodations.
